Chanthaburi city pillar shrine
The City Pole shrine is a sacred place of Chanthaburi people and the tourist come to worship for luck and glory in everyday. Chanthaburi City Pole shrine located left side and in front of Taksin barrack in north eastern of Chanthaburi downtown, opposite the provincial court and old Chanthaburi city hall and near police station.
History
The archaeologist was assumed that King Taksin the Great of Thonburi Kingdom was built in 1767.
Art & Architecture
Chanthaburi city pillar is granite stone and gilded with gold plate. The city pole established in the center of building with exterior architecture and art in Thai style with brilliant gable apex on the three storey of Thai Buddhist Mandapa (Mondop) shape of roof and some part of interior and vicinity are mixed with Chinese style such as Chinese dragon pole. There is a pair of old cannon place in verdant courtyard in front of the city pole shrine.
Fulfill thing’s obligation for the guardian spirit
In among of smoke of joss stick inside shrine, there is the Chanthaburi guardian spirit with seat posture in altar piece with lot of fulfill thing’s obligations him after they had got the fulfill place on a table in front of an altar. The local people and tourists kneel and praying for their hope and vow.There two fulfill thing’s obligation for the guardian spirit are an open air cinema and foods especially as Thai vermicelli eaten with red curry and grilled pig’s head. The people can offer him many things if they was fulfilled it. The local people believed that if somebody vowed and had got fulfill but do not obligated him as their vow yet, they will be harmful in many accident.
